pure, in the phrase mǽre peningas = Lat. meri denarii i.e. coins made of pure silver, merus, quoted by Schmid. The passage in which the word is found occurs in L. Alf. pol. 3; Th. i. 62, 10 :-- Mid V. pundum mǽrra pæninga. With this may be compared the following passage :-- For his lícweorðan feó, ðæt is ii pund mérehwítes seolfres. Cod. Dip. Kmbl. iii. 255, 12. mære
