p. ode. I. of physical impurity, to contaminate, defile, pollute:--Sé ðe áwiht þicge þæs ðe hund áwídlige (inquinaverit), Ll. Th. ii. 216, 10. Be áwídledum swýnum de inquinatis porcis, 130, 31. II. of moral impurity, to profane, pollute:--Áwítliende profanando (pudicitiae jura), An. Ox. 2743. Tunge mín mid ǽlcere leásunge ys áwídlud (profanata), Angl. xi. 117, 41.
