[eald old, wita one who knows] One old or eminent in knowledge, a priest; þresbyter :-- Presbiter is mæsse-preóst oððe eald-wita; ná ðæt ǽlc eald sý, ac ðæt he eald sý on wísdóme presbyter is the mass-priest or one eminent in knowledge; not that every one is old, but that he is old in wisdom, L.
