p. te. I. intrans. To stare about. (1) of persons, to let the eyes rove :-- Ðæt hine lǽrð se deófol, þæt hé stande and gorette and lócige underbæc út; þæt bið gymeleás gebed, Wlfst. 234, 18. (2) of the eyes or looking, to rove :-- Þǽr (in hell) wépað ðá eágan þe nú ðurh unálýfedlice gewilnunga goretende hwearftliað, Hml. Th. i. 530, 31. Ne gán hí goretyndum eágum non vagis oculis incedant, Nap. 34. Gorettende passiuos (oculorum obtutus), An. Ox. 5, 3. Wídlese ( = -lǽste ?) goretende passiuis, Archiv lxxix. 89. II. trans. To pour forth :-- Gorette egerit (spumasque frendens egerit), Germ. 398, 204.
