m. A fire in which men lose their lives(?) :-- Ðá wæs swíðe micel mancwealm, and se micela manbryne wæs on Lundene, and Paules mynster forbarn, Chr. 962; Erl. 120, 6. [Thorpe with previous translators renders the word by fever; Earle would read mánbryne = destructive fire. If mánbryne be taken perhaps an incendiary fire is meant.] mann-bryne
