m. One who brings about agreement between parties in a dispute, an arbitrator, umpire :-- Ðæt hý ealle gemǽnum handum of ǽgðere mǽgþe on ánum wǽpne ðam sémende syllan, ðæt cyninges munde stande, L. E. G. 12 ; Th. i. 174, 22. Ymb .iii. niht ; gesécæn hiom sǽmend, L. H. E. 10; Th. i. 30, 18.
