m. I. a bad man, an inhuman person :-- Swá fela ðúsend engla mihton eáðe bewerian Crist wið ðám unmannum (those who came to seize Jesus), gif hé ðrowian nolde sylfwilles for ús, Homl. Th. ii. 246, 30. [Cf. O. H. Ger. un-mennisco: Ger. un-mensch: Icel. ú-mannan a person fit for nothing.] II. one who is not a mere man, a hero :-- Ðá gemunde hé ða strangan dǽda ðara unmanna (perhaps iumanna should be read; the Latin is: Valida priscorum heroum facta reminiscens.
