1 ælf-sogoða

m. [sogeða juice] A disease ascribed to fairy influence, chiefly by the influence of the castalides, dúnelfen, which were considered to possess those who were suffering under the disease, a case identical with being possessed by the devil, as will appear from the forms of prayers appointed for the cure of the disease, -- Deus omnipotens expelle a famulo tuo omnem impetum castalidum; and further on, -- Expelle diabolum a famulo tuo, L. M. 3, 62; Lchdm, ii. 348, 11.
