In Cnut's laws the heriot of an earl included twá hund mancus goldes (which is rendered in a Latin version by quinquaginta marcas auri, so that the mancus is the fourth of a marc), L. C. S. 72; Th. i. 414, 8. Cf. for an instance of the manner in which this might be paid the will of an ealdorman where the heriot included feówer beágas twegen on hundtwelftigum mancosum and twegen on hundeahtatigum, Chart.
