In fifteenth century vocabularies skratt, skrate translates armifrodita, Wrt. Voc. i. 217, 23: 268, 64; see also Cath. Angl. 325; and in this sense Halliwell gives scrat as a word in dialects of the North. Scritta is the form glossing hermaphroditus in Ælfric's Glossary, Wrt. Voc. i. 45, 28.
