m. A plain where victory is won, a glorious plain. (1) where actual fighting has taken place :--Se mǽsta dǽl ðæs heriges læg on ðam sigewonge, Judth. Thw. 25, 36. (2) where actual fighting is not referred to, a place in which evil is overcome :--Smeolt wæs se sigewang (the place where St. Andrew's heathen enemies had been overwhelmed), Andr. Kmbl. 3160 ; An. 1583. Smylte is se sigewong (cf. ðæt torhte lond, l. 19, wlitig is se wong eall, 198, 8, the dwelling-place of the Phenix), Exon. Th. 199, 29 ; Ph. 33 : 146, 23 ; Gú. 714.
