- p. -bǽdde; pp. -bǽded To restrain, repel, compel; avertere, repellere, cogere, exigere :-- Is fira ǽnig, ðe deáþ abǽde is there any man, who can restrain death ? Salm. Kmbl. 957; Sal. 478. Ðæt oft wǽpen abǽd his mondryhtne which often repels the weapon for its lord, Exon. 114a; Th. 437, 24; Rä. 56, 12.
