p. ode; pp. od To protect, defend; tuēri, defendĕre :-- Hér stynt eorl, ðe wile gealgian éðel ðysne here stands an earl, who will defend this land, Byrht. Th. 133, 18; By. 52. Ðæt hí, æt campe, wið láþra gehwæne, land gealgodon that they, in conflict, should defend the land against every foe, Chr. 937; Th. 203, 4, col. 2; Æðelst. 9.
