According to the Old English Dictionary:

- part. [dafen becoming] Becoming, fit, suitable; dĕcens, congruus, convĕnĭens :-- Gif ðé gedafen þince if it seem becoming to thee, Exon. 67 a; Th. 247, 32; Jul. 87. This points to a verb 'gedafan,' corresponding to the Gothic 'gadaban;' convenire, decere. [Cf. gedafenian.] ge-dafen
