According to the Old English Dictionary:
- ge-dúfan
- Add: (i) lit. :-- Gif hit (the ordeal) sý wæter, ꝥ hé gedúfe óðre healfe elne on þám rápe, Ll. Th. i. 212, 2. (2) fig. to plunge into sin, & c. :-- Swá hit him áliéfedlicre ðyncð, swá hé ðǽr diópor on gedýfð quod licitum suspicatur, in hoc multiplicius mergitur, Past. 427, 27.
