p. te To betroth :-- Gesceatwyrpe despondi, Wrt. Voc. ii. 25, 72. [The O.H.Ger. scaz-wurf (manumissio seems to shew that the word is connected with sceatt not sceát, though the phrase in sceát álecgan (v. sceát; IV) desponsare might seem to point to sceát.] Cf. be-sceatwyrpan. ge-sceatwyrpan
