p. de; pp. ed To correct, restrain; corrĭgĕre, cŏhĭbēre :Forðæm ðæt ða wítu gestírdon [gestírden, MS. Cot.] óðrum ðæt hí swá dón ne dorsten in order that the punishments might restrain others from daring to do so, Bt. 39, 11; Fox 230, 7.
