According to the Old English Dictionary:

gilplíc

adj. Ostentatious, pompous, proud, vain-glorious :-- Ðæt wǽre swíðe gilplíc dǽd gif Crist scute ðá adún it would have been a very vain glorious act if Christ had thrown himself down then, Homl.
