Perhaps hand-bred should be read and the quotation be taken to the next word. But in support of hand-brǽd may be noted the form breð ( = brǽð) odor, Wrt. Voc. i. 42, 58, and the phrase gód hande brád. VII. Wicklif has handibreede v. N. E. D. handbrede. hand-bræd
