According to the Old English Dictionary:

pleón

p. pleah; with gen. To risk, expose to danger :-- Se ilca David miclum his ágenes herges pleah (pleh, Cott. MSS.) the same David exposed his host to great danger, Past. 3, 2 ; Swt. 37, 7. Se ðe on ðæm gefeohte ðisses andweardan lífes nile suincan ne his selfes plión, 34, 1 ; Swt. 229, 20.
