According to the Old English Dictionary:

sófte

adj. Add: I a. of weather :-- Gyf gemetegud sófte byþ si temperies tranquilla fuerit (it is uncertain whether sófte should be taken as adjective translating tranquilla, or as adverb qualifying gemetegud, which mist ILLEGIBLE tes temperies), Angl. xiii. 397, 462. III. add :-- God ealla g ILLEGIBLE gað sída gesceafta, sófta geþwérað, Met. 29, 47. softe
