According to the Old English Dictionary:

- ad It is not possible always to distinguish between the adjective and the adverb, but the latter character mav be assumed for the word when, if an adjective, it should take the u-inflection; e. g. :-- Wildu deór woldon stondan swilce hí tamu wǽron swá stille, Bt. 35, 6; F. 168, 2.
