the Scandinavian form of a name which in English is Þunor (-er), one of the gods, Thor :-- Nú secgaþ sume ða Denisce men on heora gedwylde, ðæt se Iouis wǽre, ðe hý þór hátaþ, Mercuries sunu, ðe hí Óðon namiaþ; ac hí nabbaþ ná riht: for ðan ðe wé rǽdaþ on bócum, ge on hǽþenum ge on cristenun, ðæt se hetula Iouis tó sóðan is Saturnes sunu, Wulfst. 107, 8-13. Þór and Ówðen, ðe hǽðene men heriaþ swíðe, 197, 19. Fled (fleó?) þór (? þr, MS.) on fyrgen hæfde (fyrgenheáfde?), Lchdm. iii. 54, 17.
