- Perhaps wǽr-word should be read, with the meaning: an agreement, a proviso. In the following passage, however, wær-word seems to occur :-- Nis geméted on hálgum bócum þætte þisse frigenesse wærword (wiðerword, ) sý gesewen nequaquam in sacris eloquiis invenitur quod huic capitulo contradicere uideatur, Bd.
