I. to cause grief or pity (a) impers. with dat. of pers. and gen. of the cause :-- Mé ofhríwþ me miseret, Ælfc. Gr. 33; Som. 37, 24. Ðæs sceápes untrumnesse him ofhreáw (-hreów, MS. F. ), R.
