1 Eádgár
m. [eád happy, gár spear] Edgar, second son of Edmund, and grandson of Alfred the Great. Edgar, in A.D. 955, succeeded to the kingdom of Mercia; and, at the death of his brother Eadwig, in A.D. 959, to the kingdoms of Wessex and Northumbria, over which he reigned sixteen years.
