- p. -bétte; pp. -béted [fóre before, full, entire; bétan to make amends] To make full amends to or for anyone or anything; compensāre prō ălĭquo :-- Ládige mid his mágan, ðe fǽhþe móton mid-beran, oððe fórebétan let him clear himself with his kinsmen, who must bear the feud with him, or make full amends for it, L.
