I. living, food, sustenance, nourishment, pottage; victus, alimenta, pulmentum :-- Mon to andleofne eorþan wæstmas hám gelǽdeþ man for sustenance brings home earth's fruits, Exon. 59a; Th. 214, 22; Ph. 243. Ðú winnan scealt and ðíne andlifne selfa gerǽcan thou shalt labour and thyself get thy sustenance, Cd. 43; Th. 57, 25; Gen. 933.
