In fifteenth century vocabularies skratt, skrate translates armifrodita, Wrt. Voc. i. 217, 23: 268, 64; see also Cath. Angl. 325; and in this sense Halliwell gives scrat as a word in dialects of the North. Scritta is the form glossing hermaphroditus in Ælfric's Glossary, Wrt. Voc. i. 45, 28. Corresponding forms but with different meanings are found in O. H.
