a gradual, an antiphon sung between the Epistle and the Gospel at the Eucharist, so called because it was sung at the steps of the altar :-- [Alleluia] for graþulum byþ gesungen Alleluia pro gradualibus canitur, Angl. xiii. 436, 1020. graþul
