In the former case may not the word be connected with scear [q. share in ploughshare] used here of the blade of a sword, heaðo-scear a war-share, blade? and hearde heaðo-scearede = with hard and deadly blades. If scearde is taken, the Icel. skarð may be compared, and the word = notched, hacked in battle. heaðu-sceared
