According to the Old English Dictionary:

ge-hēdan
I. For 'to hide, conceal' substitute to keep, store up (cf. hēdd-ern). II. For 'to acquire, . . . seize' substitute to take charge or possession of, to take, have. In Met. 27, 15 gehende is to be read rather than gehēde. Dele v. ge-hīdan. ge-hedan
