m. n. Hilt, handle [the plural, as in much later times, e. g. Shakspere's, is used of a single weapon]:-- Ðá wæs gylden hilt gamelum rince on hand gyfen then was the golden hilt given into the old man's hand, Beo. Th. 3358; B. 1677.
