1 blód-gýte
m. [blód, gýte a flowing, from gýt flows out, pres. of geótan]. I. a flowing or running of blood; sanguinis profluvium :-- Gif men blód út of nósum yrne tó swíðe, syle him drincan fífleáfan on wíne, and smyre ðæt heáfod mid ðam; ðonne óþstandeþ se blódgýte sóna if blood run from a man out of his nostrils too much, give him to drink fiveleaf in wine, and smear the head with it; then the blood-running will soon staunch, Herb. 3, 5; Lchdm. i. 88, 8-10. II. a blood-shedding, bloodshed; sanguinis effusio :-- Ðǽr wæs se mǽsta blódgýte there was the greatest bloodshed, Ors. 4, 2; Bos. 79, 26.
