pl. m. A people who, according to Jornandes and Procopius, seem to have inhabited the present Russian Lapland and other tracts thereabouts, and even to have extended into the present Swedish Finnland. The distinguishing prefix seems to refer to the use of snowshoes or skates, cf. Icel. skriðr a sliding motion, skríða to glide, slide in snow-shoes. scride-finnas
