m. A stranger who seeks protection in the land to which he has come :-- Deóra gesíð, wildra wærgenga, Nabochodonossor the beasts' comrade, the stranger that sought shelter among wild beasts, Nebuchadnezzar, Cd. Th. 257, 25; Dan. 663. Gif eów Dryhten Crist lýfan wylle, ðæt gé his wergengan (Guthlac, who had Christ's protection in the wilderness. Cf.
