adj. Turning about, shifting, veering, changeable :-- Norþan wind heaþogrim and hwearf a wind from the north deadly fierce and whirling in eddies, Beo. Th. 1100; B. 548. Thorpe, Kemble, Heyne read andhwearf = came against [us]; Grein takes and hwearf, and compares Icel. hverfr shifty.
