f. A journey south, a pilgrimage to Rome. [Cf. Icel. suðr-ferð, -för, -ganga a pilgrimage to Rome. Such pilgrimages are often mentioned, e. g. Flosi fór suór um sjá ok hóf þá upp göngu sína ok gekk suðr ok ljetti ekki fyrr enn hann kom til Rómaborgar, Njala. c. 158.] :-- Gif hiora óðrum oððe bǽm súðfo[r] gelimpe, biscop ðæt lond gebycge swá hié ðonne geweorðe if it happen that one or both go to Rome, the bishop shall buy the land as shall then be agreed between them, Txts. 442, 20.
