Substitute: An equal, a fellow, consort:--Þe lǽs gif hyra (suna) hwylc wǽre hyre oferstealla ꝥ sé ne myhte on heofenum beón hyre efngemæcca, Shrn. 151, 14. Gif hié ne ongietað ðæt ðá beóð hira gelícan and hira efngemæccan on hira gecynde, ðá ðe him under-ðiédde beóð ðurh Godes gesceafte si eos, quos per conditionem tenent subditos, aequales sibi per naturae consortium non agnoscunt, Past. 201, 17.
