According to the Old English Dictionary:

Add: [N.E.D. temple; and á-timplian, Nap. 7. The passage there given seems to show that timple is an instrument provided with teeth or spikes :-- Seó þele is eall átimplod mid áttrenum pílum and scearpum tindum.] timple
